On Saturday mornings, bacon is a must, and who doesn’t want a quicker way to prepare it? Microwaving bacon is not only the quickest way to cook it, but it also leaves less grease to clean up.

There are no splattered skillets, greasy stovetops, or dangerously hot baking sheets to clean up, but is it healthy?

Is it healthy to cook bacon in the microwave? Yes, microwave instructions are now included in most store brands. All you have to do is be very careful with your timing and cover the bacon in absorbent white paper towels.

How to Cook Bacon in the Microwave

Bacon cooked in the microwave is a fast and convenient way to get perfectly crispy bacon. You may eat it on its own, add it to soups, salads, sandwiches, or serve it with breakfast.

This method requires only a microwave-safe plate and some paper towels, but several other bacon cookers are available.

Traditional Way

  1. Place three or four paper towels on a microwave-safe tray.
  2. Place the bacon on the paper towels in such a way that it does not touch.
  3. To prevent splatter, cover with an extra paper towel.
  4. Microwave on high for four to five minutes. Check the bacon and cook for another 30 seconds to one minute until it reaches the perfect crispiness.

Advantages:

  • With up to 14 slices of bacon cooked at a time, this method produces the most bacon.
  • You can keep the bacon out of the grease very well.
  • The bacon will be up straight. This will result in the least amount of shrinkage of any cooking process. It is the method for you if you want flat bacon with a little curl.
  • You can still have crispy bacon.

Disadvantages:

  • It can be difficult to get the bacon to cook evenly. The middle could be a little less finished than the ends. But you can still get it all crispy.

  • You can make more bacon than with the other methods. However, depending on how much bacon you need, it may not take longer overall.

  • This thing is a pain to clean, but I believe it is dishwasher safe. It is helpful if you aren’t a nut who meticulously pre-washes everything.

  • The bacon is smooth and flat when you remove it, which most people like. But it also has some strings from where it stuck a little to the bacon cooker or the skewers. This isn’t very appealing but doesn’t influence the taste.

  • It’s not the easiest thing to clean. It is more complicated because of the grooves, but it is dishwasher safe.

  • There isn’t much space. If the slices come into contact, they will bind together and pull pieces apart when you separate them.

Presto Power Crisp

  1. Insert the plastic racks into the base of the Power Crisp to assemble it.
  2. Place the desired amount of bacon strips (up to nine) over the racks, making sure they don’t touch.
  3. If desired, cover with a paper towel.
  4. Microwave according to the manufacturer’s instructions. With our 1000 watt microwave, we crisped nine slices of bacon in six minutes.
  5. Remove with a knife as soon as possible and place on paper towels or a plate.

Advantages:

  • Bacon cooked the most uniformly of any form in the microwave! Follow the instructions, and it will come out perfectly cooked! What’s not to like about that?

  • The fat from the bacon drained extremely well. The grease will drain without hitting the bacon because it hangs down, and there is plenty of space below it.

  • It cooks up to nine pieces, making it one of the more generous methods.

  • There was no sticking, and there was enough space for that many slices without overlap.

  • Cleaning up was simple once we were done, and the pieces were dishwasher clear. It also disassembles so that it can be stored flat and compactly.

Disadvantages:

  • The ends of the bacon were shriveled. This does not affect the taste, but this isn’t it if you’re looking for flat bacon.
  • If you don’t cut the bacon right after it’s finished frying, it’ll stay bent. It will break into two pieces if you try to straighten it.
  • This approach was also slightly messier in the microwave than other methods. You may cover it with a paper towel, but it doesn’t fully cover it.

Other Healthy Ways to Cook Bacon

  1. Fry – Chop the bacon into tiny pieces, then fry them until they are crisp and caramelized. With a slotted spoon, remove the chicken and set it aside.

    Sauté onions, kale, or shredded Brussels sprouts in the rendered bacon fat; return the cooked bacon to the dish at the end. For vegetable side dishes, risotto, and egg dishes, this method is ideal.

  2. Roast – Place bacon strips on a baking rack and roast for 15 to 20 minutes, or until cooked through, at 400 degrees. Crispy, tender, and chewy would be the ideal mix. Serve with eggs, pancakes, or French toast to complete the meal.

  3. Broil – Bacon may also be used to create a tasty coating (of sorts). Wrap shrimp, dates, or pineapple chunks in bacon of sufficient size and broil for a few minutes per hand.
